HRF and older Bluetooth Hive Scales - How to change batteries
This article demonstrates the procedure required to change batteries in the Bluetooth Scales where the designation HRF is located on the barcode of the or the scales were purchased in 2019 or older.
NB: If your scales were purchased in 2020 or later and have the designation of HM4, you simply need to turn the scales over and undo the battery cover to access the batteries.
The batteries are located inside the main unit which is accessible once you turn the scales over. The main unit is attached to the steel frame with two screws. The main unit has a lid with four small screws.
You will firstly need two Phillips head screwdrivers:
- a medium-size screwdriver to detach the main unit from the steel frame
- a narrower screwdriver to unscrew the lid from the main unit. These size screwdrivers are normally found in precision sets.
The first two screws are hidden below a locking flap which will need to be lifted. Unscrew the two screws.
The main unit is now detached directly from the main board. It is still connected to the frame by the load cell cables. It is important to not allow the main unit to move too much as it could pull on the load cells connectors on the main unit which could affect scale readings and weather tightness of the insides.
Turn the scales over. You will notice two hexagonal holes by the edge. Using the precision screwdriver, unscrew those two screws. As the main unit is now detached from the steel frame, you will need to make the screws are lined up with the holes.
We now need to unscrew the other two screws. As we've undone the two screws holding the main until attached to the frame, we can move the main unit up and down to expose the other two small screws. Unscrew those two.
Turn the scales over again, and the lid should lift off.
NB: It is vitally important that you do NOT touch the circuit board (green part) as static electricity can permanently damage the circuitry and render the scales non-workable
Place the Silica Bag to the side and remove the battery clip. Then remove the old batteries.
Place the new batteries in the orientation as per the markings on the battery pack. If you look to the left top beside the battery pack, you should see the Status light up once the final battery is placed.
Install the battery clip and put the silica bag back in.
Now put the scales back together in the reverse order of how it was disassembled.
Notes on the Silica Bag
A silica bag is included in each scale.
The purpose of the silica bag is to pick up any moisture that may inadvertently make it inside the main unit.
The silica bag should remain effective for 2-3 years provided there is no moisture inside the unit.
When the batteries are charged, and moisture is noticed inside, please contact support@freewave.com.
