Getting started with your Environmental Monitor
The FreeWave Brood Monitor allows you to monitor your hive's internal temperature and humidity to manage the health of your bees.
Registering your new Environmental Monitor
NB: In some circumstances, your new Environmental Monitor may already be on your account. You will be advised of this.
Step 1: Go to https://portal.freewave.com or download the FreeWave App from the relevant store for your device
Step 2: Click in Create Account or Register
Step 3: Enter your desired username, name, email address, the name of your organization* and a password and click Register
NB: *If you are an individual, use your name as the organization name
Step 4: Click on the Activation link in your email and log into the website or app.
Step 5: For the web, click on the green button Claim Device which is in the panel on the top left of the screen. On the app, click the + sign
You will be asked to enter the claim token supplied with the device, a name for the device, and optional groups but if you don't have any access groups, this can be ignored.
Using your Environmental Monitor
The Brood Monitor stores records in memory, and powering the unit off will clear the memory. This is intentional so that you can clear the memory before moving the sensor from one hive to another, however, please make sure you download the data first or it will be lost.
Step 1: Power on the sensor (see diagram below)
Step 2: Open the FreeWave App on your mobile device and locate the sensor in the list.
Step 3: Connect to the sensor by clicking the ‘connect’ button that corresponds to the name of the sensor.
This will allow the sensor to pick up the time from your mobile device and set its own internal clock. Without this time setting the sensor cannot log any data (sensor readings) since it will not know the time.
NB: It will take 30 minutes before the graphs begin to populate
Using a FreeWave Fusion Mini?
If you are using the Environmental Monitor in conjunction with a Fusion Mini you do not need to set the time using the above steps as the time is stamped by the controller upon retrieval of each reading.
