How to Reset a Radio to Factory Defaults
This page covers how to factory reset the configuration on Serial (FGR, GX, LRS) Ethernet (FGR, HT, HTP) and ZumLink radios. Scroll done to see Ethernet and ZumLink procedures.
Serial Radios
Use Tool Suite to connect to the radio, there is no option to do this via the CLI interface to the radios:
- Connect the radio to a Serial COM port on your system via Diagnostic port or Data port (if the data port is not configured for RS-485/422).
- Start the Tool Suite Application.
- Verify the COM port from the system that the FreeWave Serial radio is connected to.
- In the Tool Suite → Configuration application, select the correct COM port from the drop down on the left side of the menu bar.
- Select the Read Radio Blue triangle.
- If connected via the Data port instead of the Diagnostic port you may have to put the radio into setup mode.
- Hit the setup button on Enclosed units.
- Short pin-2 to pins 4 or 6 on the 10-pin connector to put the unit into setup mode. (Pin 1 is closest to the corner of the unit)
- Pin-2 is brown and pins 4 & 6 are Black.
- If connected via the Data port instead of the Diagnostic port you may have to put the radio into setup mode.
- If the radio is read successfully, select the Default amber colored circle on the upper right of the main window.
- This will prompt you to make sure you want reset the radio to factory defaults.
- Select the OK but at the prompt.
- The radio will now be programmed with the factory default settings.
- Not all setting will change.
Ethernet (Plus) Radios
NOTE: There is no way to reset an Ethernet Radio (FGR, HT, MM2-P) to factory defaults with Tool Suite, except thru the Terminal Setup application.
- Connect a serial port on your computer to COM1 on the Plus radio using the ECD0324ER RJ45-to-DB9 serial cable.
- Open FreeWaves Tool Suite or any Terminal program (PuTTY, TeraTerm, etc.) and go to the Setup Terminal application in Tool Suite.
- If using PuTTY or TeraTerm. Set the Terminal port to BAUD rate to 19200 and parity to 8-N-1.
- In Tool Suites Setup Terminal application. The Setup Terminal only works at 19200 Baud and 8-N-1 parity so nothing to change.
- In the Tool Suite Setup Terminal or one of the PuTTY or TeraTerm Terminal programs, choose the correct COM port for your computer and click the “Connect” button.
- Disconnect power from the Plus radio for a few seconds, and then re-connect it to power.
- Several seconds after applying power to the radio, a message should appear in the Terminal window that is similar to “To enter setup, press Y” (the exact wording may be different based on the firmware version or model of the radio).
- Once you see this message, press a single “Y” on your keyboard. Do not hit Enter, space bar, or anything else, just a single “Y”.
- You will be presented with a prompt for “Password” (on firmware 2.22 and lower) or “Login” (on firmware 3.x and higher).
- At the prompt, enter the word “default” and press enter.
- This will cause the unit to Factory Reset itself.
- After a few seconds, the radio will reboot.
- Allow the radio to complete its boot-up process. Now all the settings will be reset to their factory defaults values.
- The Default IP address of the unit will now be 192.168.111.100
Note: This will also reset any passwords set on the radio and remove any users configured.
ZumLink Radios
This can be done via SSH or Web browser or serial COM connection or USB connection.
NOTE: This does not remove any installed packages or reset any passwords. It just resets all of the configuration parameters to their defaults. See the How to Reset Zumlink Password to Defaults to reset the passwords.
You can also combine this command with the Password Reset command into a single file to reset both. See the How to Reset Zumlink Password to Defaults on how to setup this file.
WARNING: This does NOT remove any encryption keys configured.

Copy the file to the ZumLink directory that has the config.txt file.
Via Web CLI
In a web browser from a system that has access to the ZumLink, enter the IP address of the ZumLink you want to reset.
Click on the configuration link on the left and login into the ZumLink. The default login credentials are:
