How to Reset Zumlink Password to Defaults
How to Reset Zumlink Password to Defaults
This will reset both the ADMIN and DEVUSER passwords.
Configuration File Method
The following procedure will reset both the admin and devuser password on the radio to their default values. This procedure uses a configuration file. If you do not know the admin or devuser password, this is the only way to reset the passwords. If you know one of the passwords, you can use the same command in the CLI interface.
Note: This only resets the passwords for admin and devuser. You can also combine this command with the factory reset command into a single file. If you want to Factory Reset as well, you can combine the command with the Factory Reset command into a single file. Please reference How to Reset a Radio to Factory Defaults for more information on how to Factory reset different FreeWave Radio models. Zumlink info is at the bottom half of that page.
Note: A sample Password Reset file is attached below.
- Create a text file using notepad, notepad++, textpad or any text editor and put this one string into that file. Do not use MS Word to create this file. You can also enter this command via the CLI. Make sure there is a carriage return after the line of text in this text file.
- passwordRestoreDefaults
- passwordRestoreDefaults
- Give the file a name, which can be anything you want like ‘passwordreset.’
- Change the extension of the file from .txt to .cfg. We do not know if the extension is case-sensitive or not, but we would recommend lower-case.
- Connect your system to the ZumLink device with a USB cable.
- This should pop-up a file explorer window on your Windows based PC system.
- In windows File Explorer, navigate the following directory on the ZumLink.
- Copy the passwordreset.cfg file you just created to this directory on the ZumLink.
- NOTE: Once you copy the file to the ZumLink, the ZumLink reads the file, applies the configuration changes and deletes the file. So the file will never appear in Windows explorer.
- Wait about 15 seconds and then reboot/power-cycle the radio
- Now attempt to access the Web or CLI and see if the admin password is back to admin and the devuser password:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin
Or devuser from CLI Only: - Username: devuser
- Password: devuser
